The Benefits of TEACHING KIDS TO COOK
Our cooking classes are a great way to connect with your kids as they develop life skills, build confidence, and so much more.
Cooking Teaches Confidence
Learning to cook in their own kitchens is the best way to empower young cooks. Our classes are designed to build kids’ confidence as they learn to work with their family’s particular tools and the ingredients they have on hand. Delighted parents often tell us how proud their kids are of the delicious meal they made.
Cooking Teaches Self-Reliance
The ability to make a meal for yourself and your family is an essential life skill. Each of our classes features fundamental cooking techniques -- like chopping an onion or making a pan sauce -- that help kids think and act like cooks. These are lessons they’ll carry with them into adulthood.
Cooking Teaches Community
This is fundamental to our mission: whether it’s cooking for an elderly neighbor, shopping at a local farmers’ market, or understanding a different culture by exploring world cuisines, food is a wonderful way to connect, engage and support the world around us. And by cooking together online, we are connecting kids in kitchens across the world.
Cooking Teaches Creativity
Some of us are pastry artists, creating beautiful and elaborate desserts. Others like to make spice blends and are all about building flavor. Our classes encourage students to explore their interests and express their identities through food. Dynamite Shop kids learn to customize dishes to their diets and tastes, and find they discover parts of their character along the way.
Cooking Teaches STEM+
Whether it’s kitchen math (scaling a recipe up, calculating volumes for pan sizes) or food science (learning about The Maillard Reaction while searing or roasting or leaveners while baking), every Dynamite class touches on important STEM+ lessons.
Cooking Teaches Health
By teaching kids how to make dinner or learn a new kitchen skill, we’re helping them develop a healthy relationship with food and understand that the way we eat benefits our well-being and the health of the planet. The majority of our recipes are inherently healthy, vegetable-forward and balanced.
